Kiko Life is owned by Osuntomi Melendez, who in real life is a veteran journalist, graphic artist and web developer.
Tomi (toe-meeeee), as everyone calls her in SL (and now, quite a few outside of SL), has been a resident of Second Life for four years. Tomi spent two years as a consumer in Second Life, not only frustrated by the bad skins created by other non-ethnic designers (who have a very odd view of Black skin in particular), haunted by 'white butt syndrome' and grey, orange or over-red skin tones, and bland makeup, white girl faces on almost every vending board at every major designer's walls, and white girl shapes under those bad skins, Tomi set herself to work to create shapes and skins that she wanted to wear and see.
The daughter of an ex-Black Power revolutionary, and a learned history teacher---both artists in their own right--Tomi began to create and realise her own vision for what Second Life could be for Black avatars.
What came out of it, was Kiko Life, and for the first time, a massive number of options and choices for the ethnic community in Second Life.
In late 2010, Tomi began to repurpose Kiko Life. While we continue to focus on ethnic avatars, we have expanded our skin tones to include lighter skin tones (six new ones) to accommodate requests from customers who wanted more options.
In addition, with Linden Labs releasing support for the tattoo layer, Kiko Life is on it's way to becoming one of the largest producers of tattoo layer makeups in SL (at least this is the plan).
Beyond this, Kiko Life has partnered with Virtual Adventures to work on one of the largest virtual city builds in Second Life, as well as other collaborative projects. This is an exciting time for Kiko Life!
In light of all this, we decided to change the name of of the business to reflect our growth and our product lines. So as of December 2010, Kiko Life Ethnic Shapes & Skins, is now known as Kiko Life Digital Cosmetics Co.
We seek to provide our customers with cohesive avatar appearance experience, as well as forging a community based on the love of great skins, great makeup, great shapes and collaborative efforts with other designers and sim owners.
Kiko Life is also expanding rapidly into other grids across the Metaverse. We're in the process of setting up in InWorldz, and are looking at other grids such as Avination, OpenSim, Active Worlds and OpenLife. By the end of the year, we expect to represent in numerous locations to provide high quality content that allows ethnic avatars (and others) to look good wherever they are.
This website is the meeting point for all our Metaverse activities.
